The Mexican Geological Survey has been created with the aim of creating an infrastructure for geological mining information in line with the technological age the world is experiencing. Its purpose is to serve all disciplines of earth sciences; one of them is the mining.

In the past the exploration in Mexico has had an important out of sync, that according to the new concepts of exploration and needs to become more specific, as it is having systematic information covering large areas without governed by State or geographic boundaries and homogeneity in the concepts of generation of such information.

Now, according to the needs of the mining sector, the Mexican Geological Service generates, among others, systematic geological mining infrastructure, with homogenized terminologies and classifications, which allow the user to have maps at 1:50,000 scale and 250,000 detailing: deposits of metallic and nonmetallic minerals related to the nature of the mineralization, morphology and origin, as well as geology, tectonics, structural and hydrothermal specifying the type of existing mining works in a given area, as well as considering some metallurgical data.

Specifically, information of a geological-mining-metallurgical handled with the classification:

Deposits:    Metallic, nonmetallic.
Nature of mineralization:    Carbonates, phosphates, sulfides, oxides, silicates, alluminosillicates, fluorides, sulfates.
Morphology:    Veins, stratiform, lenticular, regular, massive, disseminated, gap.
Alterations:    Carbonation, kaolinization, sericitization, chloritic, oxidation, silicification, propylitization, argilization.
Source:    Hydrothermal sedimentary skarn, epigenetic, evaporitic, metamorphic, metasomatism.
Type of mining works:    Mine abandoned, mine recovery, mine production, leaflet and ore small demonstration onsite plant profit, non-metal processing.

As an added value to this infrastructure of information geological-mining the Mexican Geological Survey has an invaluable wealth of reports generated for over fifty years of mining focused on detail and regional studies on areas with mining or mineral evidence.

Both types of information are available on digital formats and databases that allow the user to superimpose the different levels of information generated for the target interpretations according to the user.
