The Mexican Geological Survey (SGM) is a public decentralized organism with legal personality and its own task manager for the Ministry of Economy, the aims "to promote better utilization of mineral resources and generate basic geological information of the Nation "and, for compliance, you must perform the functions specified in Article 9, Section I of the XXVI of the Mining Law (DOF/26/06/1992, last amendment published DOF/11/08/2014), and implemented as described in the Regulations of the Mining Law(DOF/12/10/2012).


The second paragraph of Article 10 of the Mining Law establishes that "The exploration of the national territory in order to identify and quantify the potential mineral resources of the Nation" will be done by the Mexican Geological Survey, through mining assignations to be issued only for this organism by the Ministry of Economy and whose title shall be published in the Official Gazetteque.


The fifth transitional to the Mining Law states that "The activities that bring other laws for the Mining Development Commission (defunct), shall be entrusted to the Council of Mineral Resources (now the Mexican Geological Survey)", as such, "will perform exploitation of national mineral reserves containing radioactive substances "in accordance with Article 3 of the Regulations which states national mineral reserve deposits of uranium, thorium and other substances that gain hendibles isotopes that can produce nuclear energy (DOF/17/01/1952) in the terms of this regulation and the law (DOF/26/01/1950, last reform published DOF/12/01/1972).


Also, you must perform the activities that give other laws such as the Regulatory Law of Constitutional Article 27 Nuclear (DOF/04/02/1985, last amendment published DOF/09/04/2012), which in its Article 9:, states "The radioactive mineral exploration will be carried exclusively and directly to the decentralized federal government agency called the Council of Mineral Resources (now the Mexican Geological Survey), both free and unfree land. This activity shall conform to the program and technical conditions determined by the Ministry of Energy, which the Agency will assign the lots to be required, for prospecting and exploration for these minerals.


STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES:

  1. Generate and provide the infrastructure of geological-mining information of national territory to boost investment in the mining sector and that constitutes the basis to projects related with Earth Sciences.


  2. Advise, support and certify mining projects and integrate them into a projects portfolio technically sustained, promoting their contest that generate resources to SGM and encourage the investments attraction.


  3. Locate targets and exploration projects, propose mining projects for bidding and promote agreements and consultancies on the subject of exploration and evaluation of minerals, and energy resources that help to satisfy the country’s energy needs.


  4. Promote the exploration and evaluation of radioactive and associated minerals to increase the number of projects, as well as quantity and quality of the evaluated resources.


  5. Improve the level and transfer knowledge between SGM technical staff, in administrative matter and the administrative staff in technical matter.


  6. Place the SGM in the sectors related to geological products and services..


  7. Increase the own incomes through the sale of mining services, products and projects.
